Repeat Prescriptions

medication4Any medication you need following a consultation will be dispensed at the time. If you feel you can be helped with medication but without a consultation, your request will be passed to the doctor. Whenever possible requests for repeat prescriptions should, for the sake of accuracy and safety, be made in writing, preferably on the counterfoil of the previous computerised prescription. There are various methods to order your repeat prescriptions:

  • Online: You can order your repeat prescription directly through this site via the online appointment page or through the above link. In order to register please come to reception with two forms of ID and the receptionist will print you off your registration form.
  • In Person: Handing in the counterfoil of the previous computerised prescription during the hours of 9.00 am to 6.30 pm. Two full working days are required to process requests and the cut off time for each working day is 5.00 pm.
  • Post: We can receive requests for medication by the regular postal service or by patients dropping their requests into our letterbox after working hours and at the weekend.
  • By Telephone: If you need make a request by telephone, please ring our Prescription Line on 01823 490903 between the hours of 11.00 am - 1:00 pm. As safety guidance discourages telephone ordering of prescriptions this service is intended only for those patients who have no other means of ordering their prescritions.

Repeat prescriptions can be dealt with only on the authority of a doctor and two full working days notice are required to process each request - please don't wait until you have run out.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.15
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £105.90
  • 3-month PPC: £29.65

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

  • Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030
  • General Public - Buy or Renew a PPC On-line

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website

Two full working days notice are required to process each request - please don't wait until you have run out.

Please do not call the surgery to see if your prescription is ready.
